KS-DMR

General

KS-DMR is a regional digital ham radio multi-mode network, with a primary emphasis on DMR. Most KS-DMR repeaters run multiple digital modes, including DMR, P25, YSF, some may include D-Star and/or Analog FM as well. KS-DMR is Kansas-based, and does not operate as a transit network. DMR network connections are open to all licensed amateurs, connections to other digital mode reflectors are limited to participating repeaters.

DMR Network

KS-DMR is based on HBlink4, which was written in-house specifically for KS-DMR, but is also open-source software available to all. Effort was taking to make it as “generic” as possible, not to force users into a networking paradigm approved by a single controlling entity (one ring to rule them all!) For more information on HBlink4, see https://github.com/n0mjs710/hblink4.

KS-DMR allows connections from repeaters and hotspots, though some TS/TGIDs are only allowed for repeater participants or vetted hotspots. The scope of KS-DMR is, well, Kansas. We have no issue with traffic outside the state or the country, that’s just not our purpose.

Connecting

Public connections may be made with the following:

  • Host: vesta.k0usy.org
  • UDP port: 62071
  • Passphrase: “KS-DMR”

This is open to repeaters and hotspots, and only provides a connection to DMR TS 2, TGID 3120. Connections outside of the state are permitted when the target is a user in or near the Kansas border.

KS-DMR member repeaters may chose to network any TS/TGID combination they like within our network, and can set those with the options configuration item in MMDVM, example syntax is: “TS1=1,2,3,91;TS2=10,99”

TS/TGID Table

  • TS1/TGID2 – System local. This is all participating repeaters and duplex hotspots that have been approved for access.
  • TS1/TGID8 – NOT Networked, but expected to be used for repeater-local communications amongst KS-DMR member repeaters, and is listed here for users of the system. You can expect your traffic on 1/8 to remain on the local repeater.
  • TS1/TGID9 – KS-DMR participating repeaters only. Sorry, don’t ask for a hotspot or non-participating repeater connection to this one.
  • TS1/TGID3120 – Kansas Statewide. This was our original TGID, and it was KS-DMR before networks like Brandmeister duplicated it and put forward their own control over it. We still use it. This is the TGID where the overwhelming majority of traffic is, and what we recommend using! This is also open to everyone who connects.

Connection Blocking

KS-DMR is not a public network, and there is no right to expect service. Contrary to what some have asserted, KS-DMR is under no obligation to provide connections based on the having and amateur radio license. If we detect abusive behavior, or operation inconsistent with the goals and purpose of KS-DMR, we may block the connection.
